ABOUT ME

Hello. My name is Samson Lipuka. I am from the coastal area of Kenya, at a place called Mazeras. Mazeras is some 20 kilometers to the West of Mombasa on the Mombasa Nairobi Highway. Mombasa is one to the oldest cities in East Africa, and is the main sea port in East and Central Africa.

I am a member of the Lipuka Family which can be found in all East African countries of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. We are a relatovely large family.

I am the first-born of seven brothers and three sisters. My family does not practise polygamy, but we still believe in big families. It is thus a lot of fun when we meet at out annual Family gathering, which is held during the month of August.

We are in many professions, from politics to education, Civil Aviation, business and finance, music and entertainment. I am a Radio Broadcaster, a profession I now share with my niece.

I also own two companies which complement each other. Lipuka Communications and Lipuka Productions Company. They are in Public Relations and Advertising and Music and Movies Industries.

I happen to be involved in sports too. I am a Taekwondo Instructor and the founder of the Kenya Taekwondo Association. I am also the President of Better Life Through Taekwondo.

THE SOLDIERS SHOULD NOT BE IN PRISON

Posted on May 11, 2009 at 10:14am 6 Comments

Some 28 soldiers were sentenced to life imprisonment in Nigeria for rioting. The 28 soldiers, who included 4 women, were sentenced by a Military court martial tribunary. They had rioted after some senior officers of the same military had diverted their pay. The pay was for peace-keeping services for the United Nations in Siera Leone. And when they they were finally paid, the money was less than they were entitled to.

On the face of it, the Military brass was right. Rioting soldiers… Continue

THE PROFESSIONAL FUND-RAISER

Posted on March 23, 2009 at 10:10am 3 Comments

You know him. Always around and most sympathetic. Every village has one. I am talking about the man who, on hearing that someone has died, he is the first to express his sympathies. He will offer his services, and elect himself chairman of the fund-raising committee, to collect money for the funeral expenses. He is not employed, never has been, or was sacked, but looks very prosperous and looks honest.

This is the man who will always turn up when there is a terminally ill person in… Continue

NIGERIAN FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATION IS AT FAULT

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 10:02am 2 Comments

The Nigerian Football authorities are at it again, firing the coach and replacing him with another on the basis of another poor performance in Rwanda. They are wrong. The fault is theirs. They are the ones who should be sacked.

Going back some 20 years should be a good lesson. Realising that football was on the decline, Nigeria withdrew from all international competitions and started from scratch with the junior team. The result was all there for all to see. Nigeria won the World… Continue

TRADITIONS WE CAN DO WITHOUT

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 9:30am 0 Comments

Africa is rich in tradition and culture. But there are some practises which make us wonder In Swaziland, fo example, the king has to chose a wife every year. So a dance is held around September. This is called the Reed Dance. Young girls of 13 to 18 from all over Swaziland walk long distances to the King's Palace, in very scanty and revealing dress. The King then chooses from among them, just who will be the next wife.

Once the king has chosen, the poor girl has no choice but to… Continue

REBRANDING NOT A PRIORITY FOR NIGERIANS

Posted on March 19, 2009 at 8:50am 6 Comments

Nigeria has been re-branded, yet again. And the president has told Nigerians it is their civic duty to see it succeed.

It is okay for the Nigerian Government to rebrand the country, but Nigerians have seen it all before. The military juntas did it. So did Abasanjo.

I may be Kenyan, but I can think of a number of places where there are no roads, villagers have to walk a few kilometers to access hospital facilities, and children have to walk to the next village to attend… Continue
