From what millions of Nigerians all over the world believe concerning the issue of corruption in Nigeria, his excellency the President and commander in chief of armed forces is handling matters too soft, most people believe he is not playing hard balls and that that is the reason why fighting the demon down to its kneels is currently not aimed at. Here is what he has to say concerning this issue:
The statement:“The Presidency has noted with concern, recent reports, comments and agitations aimed at creating the totally false impression that the Jonathan administration is not doing enough to curb corruption in Nigeria.
“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan clearly enunciated his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption on his assumption of office and has since worked to strengthen the nation’s anti-corruption agencies for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
“Certainly, nothing has been done or left undone under the President’s watch to justify the labelling of his administration as ‘soft on corruption.’
“He has appointed a tried and tested corruption investigator to head the EFCC. He declined to swear in a nominee for the chairmanship of the ICPC when questions were raised by the public about the propriety of his nomination and clearance by the Senate; and recently nominated a more acceptable replacement.
“Much of the politically-motivated agitations alleging tardiness in the war against corruption revolve around the administration’s handling of the reports of probes that have been undertaken into the management of fuel subsidies in the country.
“President Jonathan wishes to reaffirm, once again, that there will be no sacred cows in the matter and that any organisation or individual found guilty of fraud or corruption will ultimately face the full weight of sanctions prescribed by the extant laws of the country ...Source

Comment by Smiles Ajah on July 28, 2012 at 6:44pm One thing about us Nigerians is that we are too hasty to pass judgment. Place yourself in his shoe, how would you rule a country of over 150 millions, with different religions, ethnicity, tribes, cultural background and etc. How can govern a country that has been destroyed for so many years by greedy unpatriotic individuals, who are so corrupt, thieves or robbers, selfcentered, tribalistic etc? Do you except magic? How can you rule a country where some think if they are not on the throne nothing works well?
I wish to thank Matthew, Goodluck is soft because he has to follow the constitution and the 3 tiers of government, thus he is not a military man who has no respect for the nations right of existence.
Jonathan is not a military man and was not trained as such. The government he operates now is democracy. He does not rule with decrees. He may have good intention but he can't implement it alone. He is the first civilian president after many years of military dictatorship. I am sure that deep in his hearts, he is uncomfortable with the level of insecurity, corruption and unemployment in the country. He needs our prayers to be courageous to take one or two decisive actions to redeem his image before Nigerians. He must find the best way of dealing with the cabals. The cabals are the problem of Nigeria. The cabals have done grave havoc to Nigeria and have plugged all holes of repositioning Nigeria as a great country. They benefit immensely from the structural imbalance, insecurity and strangled economy of the nation. Though they are already doomed for destruction, yet they have brought doom and ruin to so many Nigerian families. It is not corruption that Johnathan should fight, it is the Cabals.
Comment by Smiles Ajah on July 3, 2012 at 1:28pm Leadership is not just mare talk, put yourself in his shoe, what would you do better than what he is doing now. How many years has this cancerous corruption eating deep in to every nerve of this country? it only takes a few space to destroy what will take many years to repair or build new ones. It is not long he came into power, and it is myopic to think that the numerous problems of corruption, electricity problems and the created security challenge in the North could just be tackled or fixed in a space of days. I just appeal that let us give him time, and our honest support. Secondly, we should rather proffer solution than just criticism, condemnation and discrediting his effort. Nigeria problems can never be solved by just suggestions, we should be willing to act. building this country is not a day dream or i think, just as the situation we are today did just happen in a day or weeks but many years, so also rebuilding will take time. He might be honest and sincere, but what about those around him? what about those who are responsible for the situation we are today? what about those who are benefiting in the current spate of things? May God help us, Ameeeen
Comment by Abayomi Tolulope A. on July 2, 2012 at 10:25pm Saying the president is soft on fighting corruption gives a lot of credence to him and his government. Left to me, if GEJ is fighting anything, then that thing surely isn't corruption.
Comment by ATTAHIRU ABDULMALIK UCHE on July 2, 2012 at 3:07pm President Joe can not fight the corrupt men and women of Naija b/cos they sponsor his election, the second name for his party PDP is corruption. So under PDP government, corruption will be in increase.O ALLAH save our country from the hands of evil men and women.
Comment by Danladi on July 2, 2012 at 10:31am I reasonably suspect that he is alone in this cause of action. If not the 1st thing would have been that, just as EFCC is backed by an Act of National Assembly, I would have expected that an Act to determine or create a separate court for speedy trial, Confiscation, appropriate sanctions, imprisonments e.t.c. Should be proposed and sent to the House of assembly for their assent. That I think we lack now. GEJ is being diplomatic incase of next term and with Govt of National Unity as he was thought by his late predecessor at heart, also having fellow Nigerians who see or mistake destructive criticism at a contribution to explain to or contend with.

Comment by Green Bound on July 1, 2012 at 11:22pm I personally don't believe he is soft, we all know this demon has been troubling Nigerians even before Jonathan first had a dream of one day becoming the President of Nigeria, I believe he is trying his best but seriously, he still needs to try harder.
