A MAN has died in a house fire east of Melbourne.
The 23-year-old man was the only occupant of the house at Priestly Crescent, Mount Evelyn, which was completely destroyed by the blaze this morning, police said.

When fire crews arrived at the single storey weatherboard home about 3am it was well alight.

The occupant of a rear bungalow, aged in his early 20s, escaped unharmed, police said.

The cause of the fire is not known yet and police and fire investigators will investigate the scene today.
