Lagos State Government on Saturday said it would expand some of the canals in Agege and other flood-prone areas to contain the massive rainwater that had been coming with the downpour in the state. The government added that other urgent measures would be taken to address the massive rains and floods expected within the next two weeks to prevent tragedy.

Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, spoke in Agege during the inspection of drainage channels in the area to assess the impact of last Wednesday-Thursday’s torrential rain that left parts of the state flooded.

Bello said, “For instance, the Oko-Oba, Agege canal was developed in 1989 to suit the size of residents at the time. “Population has increased and the impact of climate change is creating the challenge of flooding witnessed in this area during the last rainfall. “The kind of rain we had 20 years ago is not the same now; we now need to expand the channel to cater for the population ...Source

It can fun and laughter the first day but all that soon leaves after several days and then weeks if that's the case. We get floods here in Australia also, and people have to cope and some move away from the area. Improvement in Infrastructure will help a lot.
